Market Update - There has been a strong demand on recycle wood for the production of particle board since the turn of the year. The main reasons for the increased demands on Harpers recycling have been due to the low stocks at Norbord Cowie after the seasonal period and the high moisture content of stored wood requiring freshly produced material.
The future demand for recycled wood looks slightly less promising with quotas being introduced to suppliers of Norbord with their on site stocks recovering to a normal level.
Harpers are continually looking for new suppliers of wood for recycling and would welcome a call regarding current or future supplies. We can offer a uplift service of a site delivery whichever the supplier requires and more importantly at a VERY competitive cost.
Timber Haulage - Current high diesel prices are still causing problems with the ever increasing direct costs to the haulier not being reflected in the rates paid by the forest companies. There is a continual shortage of timber transport in the Uk due to increasing volumes and working directives which will require careful planning for the continued growth of the forest industry. Harpers are continually trying to alleviate the haulage problem with optimum vehicle usage and new techniques such as using walking floors for timber transport to increase capacity.
Wood Chipping - Our chipping operations have been FULLY utilized since mid November with our two MORBARK Model 30 chippers visiting sites up and down the Uk chipping an estimated 25,000 tonnes of wood in this period. Our principal chipper operator Eddy Christie has visited no less than five sites from Central Scotland, South Scotland, North England, Wales and South England.
Chipping can be carried out for many operations from the production of high quality paper chips to chips for fuel. Any further details please contact the office.
Recycle facility Cowie - Our site at Cowie is currently running at "full speed ahead" with some 4000 tonnes of recycle produced in January. We are currently busy with other on site operations as well processing various materials from the Norbord site such as MDF and Particle board.
The site is continually upgrading and we are currently installing a secondary screening system to increase efficiencies of recovery.
Suppliers are welcome to visit the site to view operations.
Employees - We are currently fully staffed in most operations but if the company and operations are of interest please call and leave your details for future vacancies.
Other News - The company is currently part of a European project involving ergonomics in forest machinery called COMFOR. One of our employees recently returned from Finland after a two day conference regarding the development of this ongoing project. The company regard projects such as COMFOR as an integral part of our business as it opens new initiatives for business developments both for our own company and others in the same fields of work.
Thank you for visiting our site which we hope to keep undated on a weekly / fortnightly basis.
